(Fall 2023)
Three Poems That Were Written on the Same Day
Waiting for my girlfriend to stop playing video games at a party
Hungry late at night
After forgetting dinner
To make time to stop
At a real-life candy factory
(A parody of a dream)
On the way back from
Apple picking this afternoon,
I am DESPERATE FOR
QUESADILLAS!
At some point, i will have
Quesadillas. But in this moment,
That moment seems forever away.
I bet single people are
Drowning in quesadillas
Right now. :( :( :(

The second, better poem I wrote waiting for my girlfriend to stop playing video games at a party
If the cat owns the couch
Does it matter how tired I am?
The three states i have driven through today
The time spent walking through fruit trees
To find baking apples in a sea of
Golden supremes and Mollies delicious
The time spent waking Sam up in the morning
While they called me evil for ripping
The blanket away and kissing their back
Back to life?
Later, the cat sprints out the door as
Sam mocks him for abandoning his well-fed safety.
V catches the cat and fetches G; locked out
Escorting his partner Kitty to their ride.
Now splayed out
On the couch, the cat having retreated
To the bathroom in protest over being carried
Up the stairs, I am triumphant. After a day
Of squeezing into back seats and a month
Of pinching pennies, how sweet to kick out
My tired legs and let my feet fall freely.
These are the sort of things you can't really
Explain to cats. And thus our many battles.
***
Sitting on a park bench in another town
"I'm trying to give myself space to be human."
"Absolutely, I love that.
I'd hate it if you were
pecans."
