Maybe You’re Right
When I realized
You hadn’t meant
The things you said
About loving me

I should have also realized
You didn’t still mean
What you had said
About going to the lake
Today

But I have been waiting for an hour
So the least you could do is drop me off
Now that you’re back from work

Untitled, no. 14
I’m like a force
Of nature

Unless someone
Takes action soon

I’m only going
To get worse

***

Untitled, no. 68
My dog always winces when the firecrackers pop and wiz
Outside my window. She never remembers the night before.
How the explosions stayed outside. How I kept her safe.
We wait for June to surrender its ground to July and the quiet
Dark nights held deep in the summer. She never knows
That if she can find some calm, some patience, some
Understanding that this is just one small fraction of the year,
Everything is going to be just fine.

But I understand
I’m so much smarter than my dog,
but she’ll never admit it
And for that, I’ll never forgive her

Always Moving Forward
I was driving home last week
Wondering what the captain and crew
Of the passing train thought
About my Oscar Wienermobile

***

Things I’ve said this month instead of “I’m sorry” (when I really wasn’t sorry)
I hear what you are saying
Well that is sad, isn't it?
Oopsadaddle
That must be terrible for you
I acknowledge that you are feeling feelings, and as a result of that, I am also feeling feelings
I feel your pain. (maybe try a celebrity impression)
Well, doesn’t that just glaze your donuts?
I know what you must be thinking: is that that weird lady who kept dumping tires on my lawn? but I’m so much more than that.
Clip clop, sweetie (best if you're on horseback)

Ana de Armas
Pulling my feet in under the weighted blanket, I asked whether

In the glow from the salt lamp and the Christmas lights
With my hair in my face [despite my drunken attempt at putting it up]
And wearing his new sweatshirt and my old socks
And feeling so warm and safe and small and everywhere

Whether I looked like Ana de Armas
And he asked if that was good thing
When he could have just said yes.
