This Shouldn't
Have Happened
Okay, well let me see what I remember from this plotline.
I think that Whitney stays around and watches the rest of the show.
Some of the people do songs, some do comedy, some do performance art.
A lot of it is bad, but some of it is really good.
And Whitney recognizes a guy she knew in college.
He had dated a friend of hers.
So, they knew each other pretty well at the time but never really spent time together one on one.
But that is years ago now.
Whitney asks for a ride and he agrees.
He drives them both to his home.
He lives nearby.
He asks Whitney how she ended up at the concert and she tells him the whole story.
He offers her a drink.
He makes her a late night snack.
He tells her about his last break-up.
And, things start to feel…intimate.
I guess they don’t feel intimate.
They are intimate.
He flirts.
She flirts.
But Whitney is tired.
I mean, it has been a fucking crazy day.
So they go to bed.
Whitney sleeps on the couch.
He sleeps in his bed.
And in the morning, he offers to drive her home.
She accepts under the condition that she can buy him breakfast.
He was hoping she would say something like that.
When they get to Whitney’s place, she has to rush to get to work on time.
So, he stays at her place.
She asked him to.
And when she got home, they went on their second date of the day.
They dated for about six months until the distance between Omaha and Lincoln became too big an obstacle.
But genuinely, things were always really nice between them.
Their connection was never so strong that either ever considered moving or even saying I love you.
But both showed each other new ways to live and have fun and explore the world around them.
And both of them found a hope in their connection they needed for the next steps in their life.
Goodness, what a joy it can be sometimes to live and be happy.
The End
