This Shouldn't

Carefully inching down the hallway, Whitney saw that the light was coming from an open door. Inside the small room she saw about fifty people standing in a circle with their backs against the crumbling concrete walls. In the middle was a singer with a battery powered karaoke machine singing a hyperpop cover of “This Must Be the Place.” The singer was wearing all black, except for a motorcycle helmet they had covered in little mirrors like a homemade disco ball.
Everyone but Whitney had brought their own tricked out flashlights to the show. Some used gels to change the color of their lights. Some poked holes in aluminum foil so the light looked like it was coming through a colander. Others brought light-up toys and jewelry from EDM shows or county fairs. The colors and shapes danced over the singer's face and reflected onto the walls and ceiling.
Whitney was not overly impressed by the music itself, but was impressed by the show these weirdos had been able to put together without running electricity.
Standing in the doorframe, Whitney noticed another light flicker from the stairwell.
